You Are Your Company

Behind each company is a founder who embarked on this journey knowing that the road ahead “will be challenging” says just about everyone who talks about becoming an entrepreneur. While this must weed out some of the competition, for those who continue in their entrepreneurial pursuits, they understand this is par for the course.

But what does the road ahead really entail? It’s hard not to feel that this is an overgeneralized obstacle already placed upon those looking to pave their own paths before they begin!  I think it is safe to say that each entrepreneur faces their own struggles and moments of triumph.

It is important to stay present with the reality of your individual situation. Even though it is advantageous to find mentors and learn from those who have gone through this before, each person's entrepreneurial journey is inherently different.

From comparison comes competition, and judgment of your own success. Just as with anything else in life, when we begin comparing ourselves to others, we often look past our strengths and focus on the negative.

This is why mental health and entrepreneurship go hand in hand. Many early entrepreneurs are pushed to be a jack of all trades. Naturally, we are not experts in everything. This type of pressure can cause significant issues of self-esteem and resurface unresolved concerns.

The constant change and recalibration often related to an entrepreneur's journey can create a sense of constant transition and lack of feeling grounded, which in turn can cause anxiety, restlessness or exhaustion.

On the flip side there are also days of pure exhilaration, accomplishment and productivity. These moments motivate you, inspire you and build your endurance to withstand the tougher times.

These extremes are riddled with days of maintenance where you attempt to hold onto the good times and resist the bad, sound tiring! It is no wonder that this rollercoaster leads to a significant impact on your mental and physical health especially for those who are not in tune with their mind, body and the connection between the two.
